2013 Ford Fusion Features Lane-Departure Technology

The new Ford Fusion will feature a lane-departure technology that can potentially be life-saving. This new system is typically reserved for luxury car consumers willing to pay a premium for the feature,  so it's very impressive that Ford will feature it in more affordable models.

The system uses a digital camera and imaging sensor mounted on the car's rear windshield that recognizes the yellow and while lane markers and the Fusion's distance from each. If the system detects the car drifting across either line, it will automatically vibrate the steering wheel and if that's not eight to alert the driver, the system will then emits audio signials as well as a lit coffee cup symbol on the dash.

Norris Ford, serving Baltimore, is happy to say that the forthcoming Fusion won't the only new Ford model to gain the accident-preventing technology. The American automaker has plans to bring it to other new models, including the Ford Explorer SUV, as well.

Exactly what kind of effect can lane-departure technology have on accident prevention? The answer is profound. To put it into perspective, consider that the NHTSA reports 100,000 crashes per year are caused by drowsy driving. Fifteen percent of those result in death.
